Long Walkers: Hawkesbury Upton – 6 miles
2nd October 2021 at 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Although this is a shorter walk than usual, there are a couple of testing climbs, so it feels longer. Also, for those interested, The Beaufort Arms is near the car park, and do reasonably-priced lunches!
The coombes, meadows and lanes of the Cotswold countryside provide superb scenery. Walking is mainly on tracks and footpaths, and there may be muddy sections. Part of the walk will be on the historic Monarch’s Way, leading up to what Robin Tetlow in ‘Beyond Bristol’ calls ‘panoramic vistas’, including across the Severn Estuary. We will pass through the historic village of Hawkesbury, then pick up the Cotswold Way, from where we’ll see the Hawkesbury Monument.
