Sand Bay

Eight of us gathered at Sand Bay car park for the start of our walk to Sand Point. It was nice to welcome Tim on his first long walk with Saltford Walkers, and guest Gordon. It was with some trepidation and an assortment of clothing that we set off, as the weather forecast was for rain and wind.

Our walk started briefly on the beach before we headed inland to pass many paddocks containing friendly horses. We then stopped at Woodspring Priory for our elevenses break.

Our walk then took us around the security fence of a disused site of an MOD installation used for testing weapons during the Second World War.

We then ascended the cliff to the start of Sand Point. Our lunch stop was a lovely, sheltered cove with a pebble beach, watching and listening to the tide coming in.

From here we continued to Sand Point where we encountered some very gusty winds before heading down and making our way back to the car park. We arrived back dry, but windswept!

Nearly back – that’s Birnbeck Pier in the distance
