Brent Knoll: Utterly Blown Away

Yesterday’s walk took us to the top of Brent Knoll, then down to the beach at Burnham-on-Sea, along the beach to Brean, through the holiday camp and back to East Brent.

There were just six of us and it was just a little bit windy, to say the least, especially at the top of Brent Knoll and along the beach, where we were walking into the wind. With the rain from the night before, the beach was wet and firm, which made walking along the sand easier. Perhaps unsurprisingly, we didn’t see a soul swimming, sunbathing or building sandcastles — just a few dog-walkers. The tide was half way out, so we did see the sea in the distance.

Early on in the walk, there were just a couple of brief, refreshing showers. Other than that, the walk was rain-free, and in the afternoon, things really brightened up.

Visibility was good and there were spectacular views in all directions. We met another group part way round, who were doing the same walk from the same book. Their dog seemed particularly interested in our lunch. They started half an hour after us but arrived back at the same time as us. We don’t think they stopped anywhere, though.

All in all, we all enjoyed the walk, despite the wind being quite a dominant feature.
