Axbridge, Weare & Cheddar Reservoir

Six of us gathered for the walk today, it was very windy as we made our way across the Somerset levels. We managed to avoid the rain showers and luckily coffee break was in the porch of St Gregory’s church at Weare which was very well-timed as there was a downpour!

Along the way we walked along fields and farmsteads and also passed Ashton Windmill which had an interesting information board about its history.

There were panoramic views across the levels from Branscombe Hill, and after a steep descent we walked a short stretch around Cheddar reservoir. This wasn’t without incident, as Julie’s backpack cover blew away! There was an unsuccessful attempt to run after it, but the wind was too strong, and it continued to fly away!

Cheddar reservoir – very windy indeed

The final section of the walk was through the village of Axbridge with very interesting timber-framed buildings and a medieval village square dating back to the 13th century.

Finally arriving back to the car park after our 10-mile walk, everyone said they enjoyed it, but all felt very wind swept!
