Seven of us met at New Manor Farm, south of Bishop Sutton for today’s walk. The walk began with a fifteen minute climb onto Burledge Hill. Normally, the climb is rewarded with beautiful views across Chew Valley Lake. Today, the misty weather created grey views of the lake merging with the grey sky.

Our walk continued along fields to Nanny Hurn’s Lane with further misty views across to the Mendips. Despite the mist, signs of Spring were all around with primroses, daffodils, trees and hedgerows beginning to blossom.

We stopped for our coffee break in the grounds of the ancient village church of St James in Camely. The church dates back to the 13th century. The 15th century tower is built of red Mendip stone contrasting with the local blue Lias limestone of the rest of the church.

Continuing across fields, close to the Cam Brook, we made our way to Hinton Blewett. We found the perfect spot for lunch under an oak tree.

Passing Prospect Stile, with further misty views across to Chew Valley and Blagdon Lake, we made our way back across Widcombe Common. There were more signs of Spring with new born lambs in the fields.

We then returned to New Manor Farm to complete our lovely Spring walk.

Sorry I couldn’t make it today, and for leaving Nigel to cope with all the ladies!
Shame it was misty, hopefully can be rerun on a clearer day.
I think I coped admirably under the circumstances.
Shame I didn’t know about the quiz night , I would have come .
