Amblers Saltford Circular walk, 10/10/2026

This time there were 12 of us (including 3 guests), and we enjoyed good weather for our walk. Starting at the Little Coffee Shop on Manor Road, we joined the railway path at The Bird (no longer in hand) where we crossed the river to get on the path up to the Bath Soft Cheese place. There, we enjoyed the rural aromas, and partook of various hot beverages.

From there, we set off towards Kelston Mills which we passed though almost unnoticed, and made our may up to the main road between Kelston and Swineford. We marched single file along there (the pavement was very narrow) as far as the new Wessex Water bridge, where we crossed back over the river.

The view from there was picturesque, but no-one was tempted to dive in and have a swim, though it was suggested we could try out the swing (see the picture below).

We made our way back from there to Mead Lane in Saltford, where some of us stopped off for lunch at the Jolly Sailor. The rest of us then stopped to admire the view of the local airstrip, which appears largely disused. It is said that only one light aircraft ever flies from there (being that of the owner).

A few of us stopped off at the Bird for a pint, and the rest made their way back to the starting point.

This was a relatively short walk with no significant hills or styles, and so was enjoyed by everyone.
